A Deep Dive into Yantras

Clients walk into my suite, and almost without fail, their eyes land on the basket of small, shimmering discs near my reading table.
“What are those?” they ask.
“They’re pretty.”
“Can I hold one?”
And then, the best moment—when they pick one up and their whole face softens. They don’t even know why yet.
Those little discs are called Yantras. And in this article, we’re going to do a deep dive into what they are, how they work, and why I carry the Navagraha (nine planet) Yantras in my suite.
First, let’s clear something up
Most people think Yantras are just for meditation. And yes, you can meditate with them. But that’s like saying a car is just for sitting in.
The real purpose of a Navagraha Yantra is planetary remediation.
In Vedic astrology, the planets in your birth chart aren’t just abstract symbols. They are living energies that influence your life—for better or worse. When a planet is debilitated, or when it’s being hit by a difficult transit, you will feel it. Things get stuck. Health wobbles. Relationships sour. Money evaporates.
A Yantra helps correct that.
It’s like a tuning fork for the planet’s frequency. When you place the correct Yantra in the correct direction in your home, you are literally adjusting the energy of that planet in your life.
Every planet has a direction in Vastu Shastra
This is where most people get it wrong—and why I’m writing this article.
Vastu Shastra (the ancient Indian science of architecture and space) assigns each planet to a specific direction. If you place a planet’s Yantra in the wrong direction, it won’t work properly. Or worse, it might create imbalance.
Here is the correct association I use with all my clients:
| Direction | Planet | Vedic Name | Key Influence |
| East | Sun | Surya / Ravi | Vitality, health, leadership, new beginnings |
| North-East | Jupiter | Guru / Brihaspati | Wisdom, spirituality, growth, prosperity |
| North | Mercury | Budha | Intellect, communication, wealth, business |
| North-West | Moon | Chandra | Mind, emotions, calmness, family happiness |
| West | Saturn | Shani | Discipline, karma, stability, delays |
| South-West | Rahu | Rahu | Material desires, ambition, unexpected events |
| South | Mars | Mangal / Kuja | Energy, strength, courage, protection |
| South-East | Venus | Shukra | Beauty, luxury, relationships, creativity |
| Center (Brahmasthan) | Ketu | Ketu | Spirituality, detachment, liberation |
A real-life example from my practice
Let me give you a concrete example.
I had a client—lovely woman, sweet as honey, but her emotions were all over the place. One day she was fine. The next day, she was sobbing in her car for no reason. She thought she was losing her mind.
I pulled her Vedic chart. Her Moon was debilitated. And on top of that, a difficult transit was aspecting her Moon directly.
I said, “You need a Moon Yantra. And you need to place it in the North-West corner of your home.”
She looked at me like I had three heads. “The North-West? That’s my laundry room.”
I said, “Perfect. Put it on a small shelf in there. Doesn’t need to be fancy. Just needs to be in the right direction.”
She did it. Three weeks later, she came back for a reading and told me, “I don’t know what you did, but I’ve slept through the night for two straight weeks. And that crying thing? Gone.”
That’s not magic. That’s Vedic science. The Moon rules the mind. The North-West rules the Moon. Put the Yantra in the right place, and the mind calms down.
But wait—what if a transit is making things worse?
This is where Yantras become your best friend.
Let’s say Saturn is transiting over your natal Moon. That’s a heavy time. You might feel depressed, stuck, or isolated.
You don’t just sit there and suffer.
You place a Moon Yantra in the North-West to strengthen your Moon. And you place a Saturn Yantra in the West to pacify Saturn’s harsh energy. Two Yantras. Two directions. One problem being addressed from both angles.
That’s how real Vedic remediation works.
What about debilitated planets?
A debilitated planet means its energy is weak, uncomfortable, or expressed in a distorted way. For example:
- Debilitated Sun? Low confidence, health issues, problems with father figures.
- Debilitated Mercury? Poor communication, bad decisions in business.
- Debilitated Venus? Relationship struggles, lack of pleasure or beauty in life.
You can absolutely remedy this with the correct Yantra placed in the correct direction. It won’t “fix” your chart overnight—nothing does—but it will lift the heaviness. It will create space for better things to come in.
I’ve seen it happen dozens of times in my suite.
How to use your Yantra for remediation (step by step)
Step 1 – Get a proper chart reading from me (or another Vedic astrologer).
You need to know which planet is actually causing trouble. Guessing won’t work.
Step 2 – Purchase the correct Navagraha Yantra.
I carry all nine, made by Shari Lynn of the Light Emporium in Ashtabula, Ohio. They’re infused with Reiki and crafted with intention.
Step 3 – Find the correct direction in your home.
Use a compass on your phone. Don’t guess. East is where the sun rises. North is toward the North Star. Be precise.
Step 4 – Place the Yantra in that direction.
It can be on a shelf, on an altar, on a windowsill, or even tucked into a corner. It doesn’t need to be fancy. It just needs to be there.
Step 5 – Leave it alone.
You don’t need to meditate with it every day (though you can). The Yantra works passively, just by being in the correct direction. It’s broadcasting the planet’s frequency into your home 24/7.
Step 6 – Optionally, chant the planet’s mantra while looking at the Yantra.
This supercharges the effect. But even without mantra, the Yantra is working.
A quick reference guide for your home
Hang this on your fridge or save it in your phone:
- East (Sun) – Front door, living room, home office → Sun Yantra for confidence and health
- North-East (Jupiter) – Prayer room, meditation space → Jupiter Yantra for wisdom and expansion
- North (Mercury) – Office, study, business area → Mercury Yantra for communication and wealth
- North-West (Moon) – Laundry room, guest room, any room you want calm → Moon Yantra for emotional peace
- West (Saturn) – Master bedroom, storage areas → Saturn Yantra for discipline and karma relief
- South-West (Rahu) – Heavy furniture, master bedroom (yes, again) → Rahu Yantra for ambition and material desires
- South (Mars) – Gym, garage, toolshed → Mars Yantra for energy and protection
- South-East (Venus) – Kitchen (fire element), dining room, art studio → Venus Yantra for beauty and relationships
- Center (Ketu) – Middle of the house (hallway, main gathering area) → Ketu Yantra for spiritual detachment
Come see the discs for yourself
Next time you’re in my suite, ask me to pull out the basket. Tell me what’s going on in your life. I’ll look at your chart, or just listen to what you’re struggling with, and hand you the Yantra you need.
Hold it. Feel it. And then take it home and put it in the right direction.
That’s the secret. Not just owning the Yantra. Placing it correctly.
With Vedic precision and a whole lot of love,
Katya Faris, MA, MA

P.S. Already own a Yantra but stuck it somewhere random? Bring it to your next session. I’ll help you find its correct home. Sometimes just moving a Yantra from the wrong direction to the right one changes everything. I’ve seen it happen more times than I can count.
