The D30 Trimsamsa chart is an important tool in Jyotish, or Vedic astrology. In Jyotish, the Trimsamsa chart is one of the divisional charts used to provide detailed insights into a person’s life and destiny. In contrast to the previous D27 chart which speaks of an individual’s strengths, the D30 chart is about a person’s weaknesses, misfortune, enemies, and danger. In this article we will examine the meaning of the D30, and briefly touch upon the house meanings, and planetary placements, as well. This is not meant as an all-encompassing “how to” article for astrologers, but rather positioning the D30 in relation to other divisional charts; in this way, we can see the full breadth of the Vargas, and show clients that follow Western astrology one way that Jyotish is different. Remember that a firm birth time is essential to use this chart, or any chart beyond the D1 in Jyotish.
The D30 Chart & Women
It is said that this chart is related to women’s karma, because in the traditional Vedic society of antiquity, women were seen to suffer the most. In Jyotish, the D30 or Trimsamsa chart is often associated with karmic misfortune and challenges in life. It is believed that women are more closely linked to this chart because they endure the most suffering and challenges in their lifetime in form of menstruation, giving birth, as well as being in a lower status and lack of power than men in ancient Indian society. The D30 is said to reflect the trials and tribulations that a person must face as a result of their past actions and karma, and being born a woman was seen as reflecting bad karma from previous incarnations. Women are often seen as strong and resilient individuals who have the ability to overcome these challenges through their inner strength and perseverance, so conversely being born a woman shows that there is an inherent strength in the individual to overcome challenges that can be seen in this D30 chart. By examining the planetary positions and influences in the D30 chart, astrologers can gain insight into the specific karmic patterns and obstacles that women may encounter in their lives.
Calculation
The Trimsamsa chart is derived by dividing each sign of the zodiac into 30 equal parts, resulting in a total of 108 parts. Each of these parts represents a particular aspect of a person’s life and is associated with different attributes and qualities. This chart is believed to be especially important for analyzing past life karma and determining the potential challenges and obstacles a person may face in this lifetime.
Example:
· Calculating the D30 chart involves dividing each sign of the zodiac into 30 equal parts. This means that each division of a sign represents one degree.
· To calculate the D30 chart for a particular birth chart, you need to determine the exact degree of each planet in the natal chart and locate it within the D30 divisions.
· Odd & even numbers have different depositing planets within the 30 degree divisions. You will need to check this chart below:
· For example, if a planet is at 15 degrees in Aries in the natal chart, an odd number, you would look for its position in the first 30 degrees of the Aries section of the D30 chart.
· Repeat this process for each planet in the birth chart to create the D30 division for accurate analysis in Jyotish.
In Jyotish, the Trimsamsa chart is considered to be a window into a person’s spiritual evolution and karmic journey. It provides valuable insights into the weaknesses and difficulties of an individual, as well as the lessons they are meant to learn in this lifetime. By analyzing the planets and their placements in the Trimsamsa chart, an astrologer can gain a deeper understanding of a person’s innermost desires, fears, and motivations.
Atmakaraka in D30
One of the key factors to consider in the Trimsamsa chart is the placement of the Atmakaraka, or the planet with the highest degree in the D1 chart. The Atmakaraka is believed to represent the soul and its journey through lifetimes. By analyzing the placement of the Atmakaraka in the Trimsamsa chart, an astrologer can gain insights into a person’s true purpose and spiritual path.
The technique to discover the Atmakaraka in the D1 chart is a Jaimini Jyotish technique, but it works very well with the D30. The atmakaraka is the planet of highest degree in the D1, and it shows who a person really is at their core. Looking at where that planet sits in the D30 shows how a person deals with misfortune and disease, whether they have the strength to deal with it, and also where that karma comes from in past lives. Look to what house and sign the atmakaraka goes to in the D30, and that will show where the challenges will be seen.
Example:
For instance, if Saturn is your atmakaraka and is in Libra in the 2nd house, then Saturn is exalted and strengthened, but in the 2nd house it indicates that the karma has to do with money, blood relatives, food, and speech. In Libra’s sign it indicates that women & beauty are involved in the karma, as well as other Libra meanings such as law & justice. Pay attention to the lagna lord to see if there are any parallel themes: Lagna Lord in Virgo, Chitra, shows that beauty and vanity may be issues that instigate the karma to be unleashed. If there are other planets there in the 2nd it will tell you more information, for instance having Saturn conjunct the Sun means that there are self-esteem issues involving paying off that karma. The exaltation of Saturn gives more strength to the ability to gain confidence in dealing with money matters, and all 2nd house issues. Then look to where the lord of Libra, Venus, sits in the D30, and assess it just like the birth chart. If Venus goes to the 6th house and it’s in Aquarius, then Saturn is the lord, and that is a parivartana yoga: Saturn in Libra’s sign of Venus, and Venus in Saturn’s sign of Aquarius. This doubly strengthens the ability to overcome obstacles, and shows that health issues (6th house) and perhaps food allergies (2nd house) are a problem, but there is sufficient power to defeat them. Don’t forget that the 2nd house is a maraka house, or a “killer house”, and the 6th house means open enemies, so there will definitely be some drama in those areas, probably with women. Then, look at the nakshatras involved that Saturn and Venus are in, and other aspects to those planets.
