I’m so happy to announce that our music track has been released! In my other life before Jyotisha I got my Master’s in ethnomusicology and have been producing music since 2014.
I’ve been working on a very special sacred dance piece with Turkish musician, Hakan Ali Toker @hakanalitoker. I’ve been doing Sufi whirling since 1993, and always wanted to have my own music made. Hakan used to be in the band called Salaam, and I was their dancer in the 1990s. He now lives back in Turkey, and produces music for publishing. He created this track with my birth information embedded into the sacred geometry of the music, and the title, Saf Sema, means Pure Sky. My given name is Katharine, which means “pure”, and “Sema” means “sky”, and is the name given to the Sufi whirling ceremony. The track starts out in Segah maqam, and then later in the piece he mixes in some Hindu raga elements, which makes this a crossover piece.
