May 30th, 7:31am-NEW MOON, 14 degrees Taurus, Rohini

The May New Moon takes place on the 30th at 7:31am EST at 14 degrees of Taurus, Rohini nakshatra. This means “the red one”, and spans from 10 to 23.2 degrees of Taurus. The symbols are a cart or a chariot, a temple, and the banyan tree. The deity that rules this lunar mansion is Brahma, or Prajapati, the Creator of the Universe. This is the “Star of Ascent”, and the fixed stars that rule here are The Hyades, and Aldebaran, the red eye of the Bull. This star gives passion, intelligence, expressiveness, and public awards, but there can be illness and aggression. This nakshatra when prominent in a birth chart will make others jealous of them, and this causes a lot of drama. You see, Rohini is the favorite wife of Lord Chandra, or Soma, the Moon god. He spent more time with Rohini, and so the other wives got jealous, and Jyeshta, the opposite nakshatra, and the eldest, told on Chandra to Prajapati. So, as his punishment, Soma must get ill every month and disappear, and this is the myth of why the Moon waxes and wanes. Taurus is ruled by Venus, and Rohini is ruled by the Moon, so these two transit planets will be particularly important today.

In a birth chart these natives are lusty, loving to eat delicious food, as Taurus rules the mouth and the 2nd house in a birth chart. They are sexually driven and often will use sex to get their way and could be into tantra. Their faces are often round and cherub-like, and they are charming and alluring with wide eyes and full lips. They are often artists of some sort, and love to live a life full of adventures, but are also home loving as they love their creature comforts. They can be snobs and may look down on others who do not strive the way they do. As the Star of Ascent, these people will social climb, and break through barriers that others set for them. Just like the Bull who has a flag waved in front of them, they will charge and achieve great things once provoked and focused. They must be able to curb their desires to accomplish these fantastic dreams, so they have to be careful of over-indulging. This can bring fertility and lots of children, as well as wealth, so long as they don’t squander what they’ve been given.  The Moon is exalted in Taurus, but rather at 3 degrees, Krittika nakshatra, however the whole sign is considered exalted.

This New Moon is happening in the 12th house of the day conjunct Mercury Retrograde, which will go direct on June 3rd. Currently, there is a lot of outrage concerning the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, and this New Moon is conjunct the fixed star, Algol, so you can see that people are literally “losing their heads”, and “heads will roll” over this event. The current Lahiri ayanamsha is at 24.09 degrees sidereal zodiac, so this puts Algol now at 2.01 degrees of Taurus. Historically, Algol has received a strong association with violence across a wide variety of cultures and is one of the most unfortunate stars.  Ptolemy referred to it as “the Gorgon of Perseus” and associated it with death by decapitation. Mirroring the myth of the hero Perseus’ victory over the snake-headed Gorgon Medusa. It causes misfortune, violence, decapitation, hanging, electrocution and mob violence, and gives a dogged and violent nature that causes death to the native or others.  It is the evilest star in the heavens. Algol is the Head of Gorgon Medusa. This name is derived from the Arabic Al Ghoul meaning “demon”, “evil spirit”, or “devil”, and derived from the same root as “alcohol.” So, don’t lose your head. Keep cool, calm, and collected. In astrological magick, Algol is used as a protection amulet, as it will go after your enemies. A very dangerous star, when Mercury is retrograde conjunct it, we may say things we wish we hadn’t later. On a state level, the 12th house is secret enemies and foreigners, so we must be careful with enemies overseas. Having the lagna in Gemini, Ardra, “the teardrop”, points to tragedies that make us weep, and indeed, the US mourns the lives of those lost at Uvalde, Texas.

In the US birth chart this is taking place in the 6thhouse of health, and Taurus’s ruler Venus is in the US 5thhouse. This indicates the virus coming back and affecting children and education, and also that the economy is leading towards a recession. Rahu is there with Venus, and this indicates a lot of passion surrounding women’s issues, but with Uranus there is danger. Rahu upsets Venus’s energy, she becomes obsessive, but if channeled properly this is a great time to make unusual friendships or meet people from different cultures. This is a terrific moment to reflect upon our fears, attachments, and secret desires concerning relationships.

Mars is conjunct Jupiter for this New Moon, and in a Planetary War, or Graha Yuddha, and in Pisces it lends a lot of energy towards the demonstrations we have right now for many things, Roe vs. Wade, the Uvalde mass shooting, Critical Race Theory being taught in the classrooms, so many things. Mars with Jupiter is the “swashbuckler” combination, and in Pisces it’s about getting things done that we believe in. Jupiter is faith, hope, inspiration, and he rules Pisces, so this shows his more mystical and spiritual side, whereas Sagittarius is more religious and by the book. Mars is fighting for the beliefs of Jupiter, and for the US it’s in the 4th house of the birth chart, and this puts us fighting for our homeland. Indeed, this Ukrainian War is getting a lot of our money, while our kids are being shot, and our border is wide open. It’s a hot mess, and we’ve got to fight for what we believe in before it’s too late. Luckily, Mars always loses the planetary war, making Jupiter the winner, so hope and optimism will win out over violence.

Saturn is at 1 degree of Aquarius now, and he’s finally not conjunct any planet at this time. He’s in his best, or moolitrikona, sign and giving his 3rdaspect to Venus, Rahu and Uranus.  This is a lot of pressure, and what immediately comes to mind is the diamond, as Venus rules this gemstone. This rock is put under so much pressure that after thousands of years, it becomes the hardest and most beautiful substance known to man. Imagine, all of that suffering that Rohini goes through, and Rahu with Venus, leads to the most amazing, brilliant diamond that we know of today. So, I guess we are being tested during this New Moon. Can you overcome your suffering knowing that if you do, one day you will be a dazzling diamond? I think it’s worth it.
