Have you ever looked at your own hands and wondered what stories they hold—not just of this life, but of others? I have. For as long as I can remember, I’ve been fascinated by palms. The lines, the mounts, the shapes of fingers—they all seemed like a secret language waiting to be translated. When I discovered that Vedic astrology has a twin science called Hasta Samudrika Shastra (the “ocean of signs and symbols” in the hand), something clicked deep in my soul. Here was the missing piece. Here was a way to see not just my chart, but my karma—written in my own skin. And what I learned about my past lives (or lack thereof) completely shifted how I understand who I am, where I come from, and why I’m here. Let me share that journey with you.
What Is Vedic Palmistry?
Vedic Palmistry is called Hasta Samudrika Shastra—”the ocean of signs and symbols” in the hand.
It is a sibling science to Jyotisha (Vedic astrology) and is included in Nimitta, one of the six vedangas (limbs) of Jyotisha. Nimitta is the science of omens, and it includes all markings of the body. But its purest expression is found in the hand.
In Vedic palmistry, the karakatwa (innate meanings) of the nine planets are reflected in every area of the hand—the fingers, the mounts, the lines, and even the shape of the palm.
Think of it this way: your birth chart is a map of your karma at the moment you were born. Your hands are a living, breathing update—showing how that karma is playing out in real time. And the best part? You don’t need a birth time. The hand is always current.
My Personal Connection: Hasta Nakshatra
One of the aspects of Vedic astrology that really resonated with me—and helped me switch from Western to Vedic—is my Moon nakshatra. My Moon is in Virgo, Hasta nakshatra.
In Sanskrit, Hasta means “hand.” People with this nakshatra prominent in their charts often use their hands for their work:
-
Musicians
-
Reiki healers
-
Massage therapists
-
Nail technicians
-
Artists
-
Any job that requires fine motor skills
When I was growing up, I played hand bells in our church choir, studied piano, and later played finger cymbals for dance. One of my favorite aspects of Arab dance has always been the intricate hand work and designs that define the art. I’ve always been fascinated with palmistry, and I became a Reiki healing practitioner in 2014.
Looking back, it all makes sense. My hands were always my gift. I just didn’t know they were also my map.
The Tuckaway House and Nellie Simmons Meyer
My husband introduced me to the Tuckaway House in Indianapolis through a friend of his who owned it, Ken Keene. This is the home of famous American palmist Nellie Simmons Meyer, who gave readings to the social elite of the early 1900s—including Isadora Duncan, Walt Disney, and Eleanor Roosevelt, to name just a few.
It’s amazing to see the signed autographs of the famous hands she’s read lining the hallways of that house. I’ve sat at the very table where she gave readings.
Here’s how accurate she was: She warned Carole Lombard not to board a flight to Los Angeles to confront Clark Gable about his affair with Lana Turner. Nellie saw in Carole’s hand that the plane would crash. It did. We tragically lost Carole. Rest in peace.
Nellie is also credited with convincing Eleanor Roosevelt that every palm is unique. Eleanor then convinced her husband, President Franklin D. Roosevelt, to have the FBI use fingerprints to track people. True story.
So once I got into Vedic astrology and learned that palmistry was its twin science, I knew I had to get a reading.
My Reading with Ghanshyam Singh Birla
I learned about the Birla Center in Montreal, Canada, through my teacher. I was impressed by how long it had been in operation, and the founder felt like someone I wanted to get a reading from.
So I booked a reading with Ghanshyam Singh Birla in the late summer of 2017.
Because it was a long-distance reading, they needed my palm prints. The team mailed me an ink print kit, and I made two versions of each hand—just to be safe. They even set up a test appointment to make sure the Zoom meeting was working correctly. I was very impressed with how thorough they were.
I’ve gotten a lot of readings from Westerners who practice Jyotisha, but I had never booked a reading from an Indian astrologer. I’m so blessed that Ghanshyam was my first. He seamlessly blended my Vedic chart with my palm and explained how the planets were reflected in my hand.
He could tell that I was interested in astrology just from looking at my hand! Apparently, a good Jyotishi should be able to read your chart just from your palm. I don’t know if I’ll ever reach that level, but it’s true: you don’t need a birth time. The hand is always up to date.
The Shocking Revelation: Gandharva and Mahar Loka
What really shocked me was that he could read other physical attributes—not just my hand.
I have a small gap in my upper front teeth. He said this was a sign that I am a Gandharva—a celestial musician.
While you can read about Gandharvas online, he told me things I have not seen anywhere else:
-
Gandharvas are not originally from this Earth plane.
-
If they are here, this is their first lifetime on Earth.
-
While we may have lives on other lokas (planes, planets, or dimensions), a Gandharva on Earth is a first-timer.
He also explained:
-
Right hand = current life
-
Left hand = past lives
My left palm print wasn’t as clear as he’d like, but he said it didn’t matter. He could tell from my right hand that I was a Gandharva—and that this was my first time here.
So I asked him: “Well, then where am I from?”
He said that Gandharvas come from the astral realm called Mahar Loka.
Hindus believe there are 14 lokas—7 above, 7 below. Earth is in the middle. Mahar Loka is the 4th realm up—the home of sages, saints, celestial musicians, and enlightened beings.
Past Lives vs. DNA: A Mind-Blowing Distinction
Then I asked him the question that had been bothering me for years:
“If I don’t have any past lives here, then why do I feel like I do? Why do I have visions of other lives in other times?”
His answer changed everything:
“That’s your DNA talking. Those are your blood ancestors living their story through you. It’s up to you not to fall into unhealthy patterns by perpetuating the past. Who you are is your soul. Don’t confuse that with your DNA.”
This blew my mind. I had become so attached to those fantasized stories of past lives. To realize that they weren’t my memories—but my ancestors’—was both humbling and liberating.
I wasn’t carrying my own karma from a past life on Earth. I was carrying theirs. And my job was to heal the patterns, not relive them.
The Starseed Consciousness Movement
At this point, I feel we need to talk about what we in the West call “starseeds.” We don’t want to culturally appropriate a Western term onto Jyotisha, but the phenomenon is real.
The term “starseed” refers to people who feel they are not from Earth—that they originate from other star systems like the Pleiades, Sirius, or Arcturus.
The term “Indigo Children” refers to people who are born differently—wired differently, often with ADHD, autism, or other neurodivergent traits. These Indigo, Rainbow, and Crystal Children are all considered starseeds here to teach humanity about acceptance, higher consciousness, and telepathy.
This concept largely stems from Native American traditions. Many tribes speak of coming from the stars—the Sioux from the Pleiades, the Hopi from Sirius.
Zuni elder Clifford Mahooty speaks a lot about this new consciousness movement, specifically about what is happening to our DNA. According to Mahooty, our current DNA is carbon-based. But as our consciousness elevates with the flood of ether from the galactic center, our DNA is turning crystalline-based.
Chief Golden Light Eagle of the Yankton Sioux tribe also speaks about the Star Nations at his Star Knowledge Conferences, where I have performed and taught workshops. Chief has given me the name Rainbow Dancer, and Wichapi Waci Waste Win (Beautiful Dancing Star Woman) to recognize my place in the Rainbow Tribe.
The video The Pleiadian Message is a great summary of what this movement believes. They refer to themselves as Lightworkers in the Family of Light—here on a mission to help save planet Earth.
Is There a Place for Starseeds in Vedic Astrology?
It all sounds a bit sci-fi—and not Vedic at all. Nowhere in Vedic astrology are these exact terms used.
But many Westerners who see themselves as starseeds are attracted to Vedic astrology. And I believe the Vedas and Jyotisha do talk about starseeds—they just don’t use that terminology.
Let’s not forget: the Hindu mythological war between the Devas (angels) and the Asuras (demons) is at the heart of Jyotisha. We see this in the planetary camps.
My experience with Vedic palmistry has shown me that there is a place for understanding and discussing the starseed movement within Vedic astrology. Astrologers should be open to clients who consider themselves in this category—not dismiss them.
The Yugas and the Call to Earth
One of the links I see between Lightworkers/Starseeds and Vedic astrology is through the Hindu understanding of the passage of time.
The grand cycles of time are called Yugas. Right now, we are in the end of the Kali Yuga—the age of darkness. This is when we are furthest from the Central Sun (the Galactic Center), and human consciousness is at its lowest.
This correlates with the “call” that starseeds hear to come to Earth now—to help uplift consciousness.
To understand how the Yugas work, it helps to understand how our solar system is moving through space in a helical (vortex) motion—not heliocentric. The videos by DJ Sadhu, particularly The Helical Model: Our Solar System is A Vortex, Our Galaxy is A Vortex, and Solar System 2.0 exemplify this phenomenon.
It’s all about being aligned with the Galactic Plane. When we are aligned, we can receive more energy—in the form of ether—from the galactic center. This high ether content is what defines higher consciousness.
Right now, we are becoming aligned with the galactic plane. In approximately 64 years (around the year 2082), we will reach the end of the Kali Yuga.
This is why Earth is being flooded with souls who feel they are not from here—who feel out of place. They are not broken. They are early.
A Message to Starseeds and Lightworkers
In telling my story, I hope that others from the West who feel they are starseeds—and who are drawn to the wisdom of the Vedas—will not be put off by people who tell them that Hinduism doesn’t explain the starseed phenomenon.
I feel it is imperative, when we see a client like this, to not buy into the West’s notion that there is something “wrong” with them. Instead, look at it from the wisdom of the East and see what is right with them.
There is something very wrong, however, with modern society—and how it doesn’t want to recognize all types of intelligence. I feel these people are here to shine the light and show us the way out of this darkness.
Remember: Einstein failed math in school.
The most important thing about Jyotisha to understand is that it is the Science of Light. By that definition, all Jyotishis are Lightworkers.
Namaste.
Final Thoughts
Your hands hold stories. Some are yours. Some are your ancestors’. Some are from other stars entirely.
Vedic palmistry helped me understand that I am not from here—and that’s not a flaw. It’s a mission.
Whether you are a Gandharva from Mahar Loka, a starseed from the Pleiades, or simply a soul having a human experience for the first time (or the hundredth), your hands are telling the truth.
The question is: are you ready to read them?
