After studying Vedic astrology for nearly a decade, I’ve come to a realization that changed everything for me:
We are ALL of the signs and nakshatras.
Yes, all of them.
Here’s what I mean.
You have your birth chart (D1) and your navamsa chart (D9). Those are important. But did you know there are 60 divisional charts in total? Each one reveals a different layer of who you are.
Sometimes a person clearly exhibits a certain nakshatra energy—but it’s not present in their D1 or D9. So where is it coming from?
You have to look deeper. The answer is always in one of the other charts.
Let me show you two powerful examples.
Example 1: Tiger Woods – The Comeback Kid
I was watching TV the other night, and a news story came on about Tiger Woods bouncing back so well after his terrible accident.
I said to myself: “He’s the comeback kid.”
Immediately, I thought of Punarvasu nakshatra. Punarvasu means “the return of the light.” It indicates the rising dawn after the Dark Night of the Soul. You cannot keep a Punarvasu person down for long. They always come back.
So I looked up Tiger Woods’ chart, expecting to find Punarvasu in his birth chart (D1) or his navamsa (D9).
It wasn’t there.
I kept looking. Through chart after chart. And finally, I found it.
His D6 chart (Trimshamsha).
The D6 chart fine-tunes the 6th house, which rules:
-
Accidents
-
Health
-
Obstacles
-
Enemies
In Tiger’s D6 chart, his Sun is at 29° Gemini – in Punarvasu nakshatra – located in the 10th house of career, conjunct Uranus (the planet of sudden events and accidents).
Wow.
There it was.
He was operating from and enacting his D6 chart. That’s what was helping him bounce back so quickly. The Sun represents the father, so he likely inherited this resilience from his dad.
The nakshatra wasn’t in his main chart. But it was absolutely active in his life.
Example 2: A Client’s Hidden Wound (Name Withheld)
This is the chart of a client of mine, so I cannot reveal her name. But the discovery was so powerful that I had to include it—with her permission.
She came to me because of being sexually abused as a child by her father. The trauma had affected every area of her life:
-
Weight issues
-
Relationship problems
-
Self-worth struggles
-
Money challenges
Everything stemmed from that experience with her father.
Leaking sexual energy is another manifestation of this wound. There is a constant need for attention to validate the ego. This person talked and talked and talked incessantly. Talking was a technique to keep herself from remembering the trauma.
When you talk, you are not listening.
As a consequence, she had learning challenges. She went from job to job because she couldn’t follow through. She couldn’t have a proper conversation with someone else, because if she learned something from them, it would trigger her—and then she’d just start talking again.
I thought to myself: This is Shravana nakshatra.
Shravana is the “Star of Listening.” But most people are not spiritually adept enough to handle it, so they do the opposite: they talk.
She did not have Shravana in her birth chart (D1) or navamsa (D9). So I looked through all 60 charts.
And there it was. Her D12 chart (Dwadashamsha).
What Is the D12 Chart?
The D12 chart gives a deeper look into the 12th house. It shows us:
-
Past lives
-
What we are meant to work on in this lifetime
-
Strengths and weaknesses from the past
-
Fears and challenges we will face
The most important planet in this chart is the Sun, because it represents the soul essence, the ego, and the father.
In her D12 chart, her Sun was at 1° of Shravana – in the 9th house of father.
Also, her Saturn (the dispositor of her Sun) was retrograde at 0° Leo.
Clearly, her incessant talking was tied to the trauma with her father—and past lives with him. She has to work on this to learn how to listen, and therefore how to learn.
Her descendant in this chart was Rohini (implying being the favorite daughter that gets betrayed), with Rahu in Mrigashira (the chase).
The nakshatra wasn’t in her main chart. But it was absolutely shaping her life.
What These Examples Teach Us
| Tiger Woods | My Client | |
|---|---|---|
| Nakshatra active | Punarvasu (return of the light) | Shravana (listening) |
| Not in D1 or D9? | No | No |
| Found in which chart? | D6 (Trimshamsha) | D12 (Dwadashamsha) |
| What that chart rules | Accidents, health, obstacles, enemies | Past lives, father, fears, challenges |
| How it showed up | Comeback after accident | Incessant talking from trauma |
In both cases, the person was living out a nakshatra that wasn’t visible in their main charts.
That’s why you can’t just look at D1 and D9 and think you know someone.
Practical Takeaways for Understanding Yourself
1. You are all 60 charts.
Your birth chart (D1) is the foundation. But the other 59 divisional charts are also you—just different layers.
2. Pay attention to what nakshatra someone is showing you.
If a person is clearly exhibiting a certain energy, trust your observation. Then go find where that nakshatra lives in their chart system.
3. The D6 and D12 are especially powerful for hidden patterns.
-
D6 (Trimshamsha) reveals health, obstacles, accidents, and enemies—and how we overcome them.
-
D12 (Dwadashamsha) reveals past lives, father issues, and the fears we brought into this lifetime.
4. Even the D60 can be used as a birth chart.
For twins or people with very similar charts, the D60 (Shashtyamsha) often shows the differences in karma and destiny.
5. Don’t focus only on the “big” charts.
Some of the most important information about a person lives in the lesser-known Vargas. Be willing to dig.
How to Apply This to Your Own Life
Ask yourself:
-
Is there a nakshatra energy I feel strongly—but it’s not in my D1 or D9?
-
What challenges keep repeating in my life? (Check D6)
-
What patterns from my childhood or past lives still haunt me? (Check D12)
-
What is my “comeback” story? Where do I keep rising from the ashes?
The answers are in your chart system. You just have to look for them.
Final Thoughts
Tiger Woods wasn’t “just” his birth chart. My client wasn’t “just” her D1 or D9. Neither are you.
You are a constellation of all 60 charts—each one revealing a different facet of your soul’s journey.
Some charts show your light. Some show your wounds. Some show your gifts. Some show your karma.
But all of them are you.
So when you look at your chart, don’t stop at the first one. Keep going. Keep digging. Keep discovering.
Because the nakshatra that explains your deepest struggle—or your greatest gift—might not be where you expect to find it.
But it’s in there.
Waiting for you to see it.
