Vedic numerology is an ancient system of understanding and interpreting numbers and their influence on our lives. In Hinduism, numbers are considered to be sacred and have a deep spiritual significance. Numerology is closely linked to Jyotish, which is the traditional Hindu system of astrology. Just as in astrology, each number is associated with one or more planets, which further influences its meaning and significance.
In Vedic numerology, each number from 1 to 9 is associated with a planet, and each planet has its own unique characteristics and qualities. Understanding the planetary rulerships of each number can provide valuable insights into one’s personality, strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for growth.
Let’s take a closer look at the planetary rulership of each number in Vedic numerology:
1 – Sun: The number 1 is associated with the Sun, which represents power, vitality, leadership, and creativity. People with the number 1 are often seen as natural leaders and possess strong willpower and determination.
2 – Moon: The number 2 is ruled by the Moon, which symbolizes emotions, intuition, nurturing, and sensitivity. Those with the number 2 are often “The Queen”, and are compassionate, caring, and empathetic individuals who value harmony and balance in their relationships.

There are no master numbers in Vedic Numerology, unlike Gematria, or Greek Numerology, who use 11, 22, & 33 as master numbers.

In Hindu numerology, the number zero does not have any planetary association because it represents a state of emptiness or nothingness. However, zero plays a significant role in numerology as it is often used as a placeholder or to represent the concept of infinity or boundlessness.
Zero is also considered to be a symbol of potential and possibility, as it represents a blank slate or a starting point from which all things can manifest. In this sense, zero is seen as a symbol of the unlimited potential and infinite possibilities that exist within the universe.
In numerology, zero is also sometimes used to enhance the power of other numbers when it appears with them. For example, the number 10 is considered to be a powerful number in numerology as it combines the energies of 1 (representing new beginnings and leadership) and 0 (representing infinity and wholeness).
Techniques
The first technique you should do is your “Psychic Number”, or your “Soul Number”. This reveals the true essence of the individual, who they really are at their core. This is calculated by adding together just the birthday number. Example: December 16th is your birthday, you only use the day. So 1+6=7 is the Psychic Number, which is Ketu.
Another key technique used in Vedic Numerology is determining an individual’s “Destiny Number” or “Life Path Number.” This number is calculated based on the individual’s full date of birth and is believed to reveal their purpose in life and the challenges and opportunities they may face. The destiny number is calculated by adding together the digits of the birthdate until a single-digit number is obtained. This number is then interpreted to provide insights into the individual’s strengths, weaknesses, and potential life path. Example: April 5, 1974=4+5+1+9+7+4=30; 3+0=3. So, 3 is the Life Path Number, which is Jupiter.
Another important technique in Vedic Numerology is understanding the significance of the “muhurtha,” which refers to auspicious or inauspicious times for important events such as weddings, business deals, or other significant milestones. Practitioners of Vedic Numerology believe that choosing the right time for important events can enhance the chances of success and prosperity, while choosing an inauspicious time could lead to challenges and obstacles.
Each year is also given a number, for instance last year 2023 was a 7 year, Ketu, and it was a year of tragic losses, however it activated the spirituality of the collective and sparked a Spiritual Revolution aimed at freedom for all. This year, 2024, is an 8 year, Saturn, so this year is about overcoming financial hardships with hard work and responsibility, and facing our karma.
Assessing the numbers of addresses is another way this philosophy can be used practically. You want to compare the address number to your numbers to see if they are compatible. The Navagraha are divided into two camps, the Devas and the Asuras. The Devas, or the “Angels”, are the Sun, Moon, Mars & Jupiter. The Asuras, or the “Demons”, are Mercury, Venus & Saturn. Rahu and Ketu are not given planetary camp placements. Example: the house you want to buy is a 9, Mars, but your Psychic Number is 6, Venus, and your Life Path Number is 8, Saturn. This home may bring Mars’s energy of anger, violence, or fires. Also look at where Mars is in your chart, house placement and dignity. If Mars is debilitated or poorly aspected, this is definitely not a good choice. Likewise, if the number corresponds to a planet in your chart that has good dignity, then buying this home will enhance that planet for you.
