The D10 Chart in Jyotish: Deciphering & Unraveling Career Secrets

* The articles in this divisional charts series are meant to give an overview of each of the Vargas for my clients, not an in-depth exploration with examples for other astrologers.  All research and writing are done by me. Sources mainly come from my class notes, videos, and the Brihat Parashara Hora Sastra.

The D10 Chart in Jyotish, also known as the Dashamsa Chart, is an essential tool in Vedic astrology for understanding a person’s career, professional achievements, and reputation in society. It is a crucial component of a comprehensive astrological reading and provides valuable insights into a person’s work life and potential for success. In this article we will examine the meaning of the D10, and briefly touch upon the house meanings, and planetary placements, as well. This is not meant as a “how to” article, but rather positioning the D10 in relation to other divisional charts; in this way, we can see the full breadth of the Vargas, and show clients that follow Western astrology one way that Jyotish is different. Remember that a firm birth time is essential to use this chart, or any chart beyond the D1 in Jyotish.

In Jyotish, the D10 Chart is derived from the natal chart and is considered to be a magnified view of the 10th house of the natal chart, which is associated with career and profession. The D10 Chart is divided into 10 divisions, each representing a specific area of a person’s professional life. This chart divides the 30-degree sign into ten divisions of three degrees each. The odd-numbered signs begin their division with the sign being divided, and the rest of the signs follow accordingly.  The even-numbered signs begin their division of each sign with the sign located 9 signs from itself around the zodiac, then follow accordingly. These divisions provide detailed information about a person’s career trajectory, strengths, weaknesses, and potential obstacles.

One of the key features of the D10 Chart is the analysis of the planets and their placement in the different divisions. Each planet represents different aspects of a person’s professional life, and their placement in the chart can indicate specific career opportunities, challenges, and potential for success. For example, the placement of the Sun in the D10 Chart may indicate a strong leadership and authoritative presence in the workplace, while the placement of Mercury may suggest excellent communication and analytical skills. The analysis of these planetary placements can help an astrologer provide valuable guidance on career choices, potential areas for growth, and the best timing for career-related decisions.

In addition to planetary placements, the D10 Chart also provides insight into a person’s professional strengths and weaknesses based on the analysis of the various divisions or houses. For example, the 6th division of the D10 Chart represents obstacles and challenges in the workplace, the 7th division represents business partnerships and contracts, and the 10th division represents professional achievements and recognition. By examining these divisions, an astrologer can provide valuable insights into a person’s career prospects, potential for success, and areas where they may need to focus on personal growth and development.
