Now that Mercury has entered the retrograde zone, I thought it would be fun to unpack the meaning of the fixed star behind this lunar mansion, Sadalsuud.  While it does represent this nakshatra, Dhanishta, it also has its own meanings independent of the Vedic lunar mansions.  The symbols for Dhanishta are a drum or a flute, which are hollow instruments that create sound, and people that have this nakshatra prominent in their charts have an emptiness inside that they often try to fill up with materialism. Travel is a much better option for them to keep from sinking into that hollow void inside of themselves.  Mars is the ruler of Dhanishta, and Aquarius and Capricorn are ruled by Saturn in Jyotisha.

When Mercury  is in this part of the sky it is actually a great time for musicians to edit their music, It’s not a great time to perform, but rather to write and channel and to clean up what they have already written.  I think this transit actually is going to be very beneficial for musicians, because as Mercury travels out of Dhanishta, and goes back into Shravana, “The Star of Listening”, there is some real potential for bringing down some Heavenly songs.  As this Lunar Mansion is associated with Mars, here it represents the rhythm of Mars, so the music that is made will reflect this.  The pandemic has been particularly brutal on the music world, as concerts have been canceled, and many musicians have resorted to online performances. The Rex Foundation, which is a charitable organization started by the Grateful Dead, has been involved in helping out of work musicians. They did a concert for this cause last December called Ain’t No Time to Hate, and I think that this Mercury retrograde will find them being able to help their musicians even more.

The Fixed Star Sadalsuud

Now let’s take a look at the fixed star, Sadalsuud 🌟

Sadalsuud, 23°24′ tropical Aquarius, 29’16” sidereal Capricorn

Planetary Category:  Saturn/Mercury

· profound liar, thief, blackguard, scandal, and slander; it is said to cause trouble and disgrace

Fixed star Sadalsuud, Beta Aquarii, is a 2.9 magnitude pale yellow double star in the left shoulder of the water bearer, Aquarius Constellation.  The traditional name Sadalsuud comes from the Arabic expression سعد السعود (sa‘d al-su‘ūd) which means the luck of lucks. Another Arabic term used was Nir Saad al Saaoud which means the brightest of luck of lucks. The Latin translation being Lucida Fortunæ Fortunarum.

The star Sadalsuud is the “star of mighty destiny”.  Its solar nature presages great honor and riches. Some modern astrologers assert that Sadalsuud indicates trouble and disgrace.  β Aquarii. Sa’adalusu’ud, ‘Luckiest of the Lucky’, is one of the two most important Aquarius stars, included in every worthwhile astrological list.  It is universally recognized as a Sign of Good Fortune for all who have it prominent in their horoscopes, though like all such promotors, it should not be abused.  Gamblers especially should beware of taking foolhardy chances when planets in transit or progression on their horoscopes are aspecting it by negative aspects..

Nashira and Sadalsuud were the focal center of a very good area of the sky which was all about good rulers and successful sheikdoms, Saturn-Jupiter, and good things happened for their people, Saturn-Mercury.  As they carried this benefic area onto include the stars Sadalmelik, Good or Lucky King, α Aquarii, and the mighty star of Archangel Gabriel, Fomalhaut,  Mouth of the Fish, α Piscis Australis, with its reminiscence of that earlier star Nunki, Edict from the Sea, or freely interpreted, Word of God.  Fixed star Sadalsuud rules the right leg just above the ankle in the human body.

Mercury conjunct Sadalsuud: Social success, favors from opposite sex but some transitory difficulties, retirement owing to abuse of position, sudden loss through speculation, domestic sorrow and trouble.
