Today is the Lion’s Gate portal, but what does that mean astrologically and astronomically? It’s important not to over-romaticise this placement, as the star Sirius is quite hot, scorching in fact, and Ptolemy categorized it as a Mars Jupiter type, so we should pay attention to the intense heat found here, and it’s power to create and destroy.  Many associate this Lionsgate with the zodiac sign of Leo, but that is not particularly what the Ancients were paying attention to, because at the time of the ancient Egyptians this was actually in the tropical zodiac sign of Cancer. About 2,000 years ago, the tropical and sidereal zodiacs were the same, and since the precession of the equinoxes moves backwards, Sirius was in Cancer.  This makes sense as the Goddess Isis who is associated with the star Sirius was considered the Great Mother.  Today Sirius is at 22° of Sidereal Gemini (see picture above).

Let’s take a look at what this phenomenon means in terms of parans in ancient astrology.  Parans are potential relationships that will become actual when the planets transit the angles. At the moment that planets in paran transit the angles (east, west side of horizon, north and south poles), they are in a mundane aspect, but otherwise they are only in a potential mundane aspect. Remember, all of the planets follow a line in the sky called the ecliptic, but there are several stars that do not actually conjunct this ecliptic line.

So, the Lions Gate is when the star Sirius, which is not on the ecliptic, so it could never be actually conjuct the Sun, is conjunct by parans on the eastern horizon of Egypt. In this case it is the fixed star Sirius rising after the Sun over the horizon. For the Ancient Egyptians this signaled the rise of the Nile River, and hence great abundance and wealth from the life-giving Water, and this is why the star Sirius is associated with wealth and abundance for them.

Now, the most important thing about parans is that it is location specific!! Yes. This is the main way that Egyptians and Mesopotamians used astrology, it was all according to location and parans. It is a very difficult form of astrology, as you have to change it all for every location you’re at. Now we use the poles instead of the Horizon to determine the placement of stars and planets, and parans, while definitely important, is not the main form used today.

As you can see in the picture above the Sun and the star Sirius are lined up & the pic is at about 2 p.m. EST today. If I had taken the picture at Sunrise you would have seen these two come over the Eastern Horizon, first the Sun, then the star Sirius. This is why it is called the Dog Days of Summer because Sirius the Dog Star is high in the Sky when it is really hot in the northern hemisphere days.

Also, it might be confusing to some people why the star Sirius would be associated with royalty, when usually it is sign of Leo, and particularly the star Regulus in Leo that is associated with royalty. This is because they considered their creators in their mythology to have come from this fixed star Sirius, so to them their Royalty was represented by this star. This becomes particularly evident when a band of priests from Egypt traveled across the desert to what is now the country of Mauritania, and brought with them their mythology about the fixed star Sirius. It is reported that the Eye of Africa, called the Richat Structure,  was the center of Atlantis. The myths from this area talk about their creator beings who were half human half fish (Merpeople) and came from the fixed star Sirius, and they even reported the existence of Sirius C, a 3rd star in the system that cannot be seen with the naked eye, but they somehow knew about; from this culture we can learn about more of the mysteries of ancient Egypt. You can learn more about this in the film, Visiting Atlantis, which you can see on Gaia TV.
