January 17th-FULL MOON, 6:47pm EST, 3 degrees Cancer, Pushya

Today the Full Moon is taking place at 6:47pm EST at 3 degress of the water sign Cancer, Pushya nakshatra.  This means “to nourish”, and spans from 3.2 to 16.4 degrees, and the symbols are a cow’s udders which produce milk, a lotus flower, an arrow and a circle.  The deity that rules this lunar mansion is Brihaspati, or lord Jupiter, the priest of the gods.  The fixed stars that belong to this nakshatra are the three stars in the constellation of Cancer, North and South Assselus and Praesepe, a nebula.  Saturn rules this nakshatra.

The Asseli stars represent two donkeys, and Praesepe represents the manger that they return to each night that is between them.  These two Asseli are the eyes in the human body, and Praesepe is the third eye, hence if this placement is prominent in a birth chart, then the querent will have eye problems, but can see what others cannot with their intuition.  Praesepe is also called The Beehive star, and shows an ability to coorperate with others well.

Cancer Constellation

Pushya’s ruling deity Brihaspati was made a planet by lord Shiva after serving as a teacher of the gods, and he had a wife, Tara. She was abducted by Soma, the Moon, and they had a child, Budh, or Mercury. Jupiter fell in love with the child and raised him as his own, so often you will see this quality in natives with a strong Pushya placement. These people make great traditional teachers, but they can be arrogant and think their way is the only way, which shows an insecurity.

The Pushya Point in a person’s birth chart is called the Yogi Point, and shows the ability for the person to hold onto wealth. The wealth yogas in a chart will show you the potential for wealth, but not their ability to sustain it. This information is only seen through the Pushya Point, and hence this reveals the opulent wealth that can be attained with this nakshatra prominently placed in a chart. These people make great professors, and as Saturn is the ruler, they may have some sort of authority in their field.

Transits

The Full Moon is taking place in the 1st house for Washington, DC, and is breaking the Kala Sarpa Yoga until the Moon goes back into Scorpio. A Kala Sarpa Yoga is when all of the planets are between Rahu and Ketu, and we have this configuration until April 28th. It means Time Serpent Combination and events are fated. The Moon will break it every month for two weeks until then, and the Full Moon today is happening outside of this yoga. The Moon does not like to be isolated, it creates emotional insecurity, and having the Moon in her own sign of Cancer and on the ascendent shows that as a nation people are feeling emotionaly insecure, but also that what nourishes us is not stable. Pushya is the nakshatra of nourishment and is concerned with food, and wealth. We know that there is a shipping crisis at our nation’s ports, but there is also a trucking crisis, and it has resulted in grocery stores having barren shelves. Also, workers are out sick and so there is not enough help to keep the shelves stocked. This can all be seen here in this chart with the Moon feeling abandoned, and having Saturn, Mercury retrograde, Sun, and Pluto all in the 7th house opposite the Moon produces a lot of fear, and possibly anger. This a lot of pressure on the Moon, and I think people may snap today. Just try to hold your ground, and don’t cave into the drama.

There’s a lot for the Moon to feel heavy about today. Here’s a snapshot of what the other planets are doing:

-Venus is still retrograde until the 30th

-Mercury just went retrograde

-Uranus is stationing direct tomorrow

-Saturn is in his own sign

-Jupiter is conjunct Neptune

-Mars just entered Sagittarius and separated from Ketu

This is a lot of stuff! Our minds and emotions are overspent today, so a great way to channel this energy is to focus on Lord Brihaspati, Jupiter, and get into your studies. You can always fall down the rabbit hole with a subject you love when you feel the world is too much for you. Taking a hot bath is another great way to get the body to relax, and as Jupiter is in Varuna’s star, use water as medicine, as it’s the best healer.

For the US birth chart this is happening in the 8th house of death and rebirth, obsessions and addictions, and other people’s money. We are being asked to strengthen the sources of our nourishment, and become more self sufficient as a nation. This pandemic has showed us where the weaknesses are in our supply chain, and we’ve got to revamp everything. On an individual level we need to rethink how we grow our food, how we spend our money, how we save our money, and the kinds of mental nourishment we give ourselves in the form of education.
