December 29th, 10:28pm EST-Full Moon: 14.44 degrees Gemini, Ardra
The last Full Moon of 2020 is tonight at 10:28pm EST at 14’44” of Gemini, Ardra nakshatra. This means “the moist one” and spans from 6.4 to 20 degrees of Gemini, and the symbols are a teardrop, a diamond, and a human head. The deity that rules this lunar mansion is Rudra the storm god, “the howler”, who is another form of Shiva, the god of creation and destruction. In this form Rudra defended the honor of Rohini from sexual violation when he shot down Prajapati (Orion); this battle destroyed the unity of the cosmos.
Ardra Nakshatra in a Birthchart
This lunar mansion is ruled by the star Betelgeuse, which sits on the right shoulder of the Orion nebula. A very powerful star, it gives marital wealth and honors, an active mind, and a turbulent career. These people suffer a lot of tragedy, as the teardrop suggests, but are also very destructive, and their mood swings can destroy relationships if they are not careful. This is the “Dark Night of the Soul” nakshatra, and they need to remember that it does not last forever, that dawn always comes. These people are walking time bombs, just waiting to explode on somebody, and people feel like they have to walk on eggshells around them. As a consequence, they have very few friends, as this kind of bipolar behavior scares people away. There is a lot of depression with these natives, and bouts of tears, and this can lead to an early death, but all of this water shedding nourishes the soil and creates fertile conditions for growth later. Storms clear the air and purify. The key to them healing and not being so materialistic and cold is gratitude. Suffering will humble these people and make them grateful for what they do have, instead of lusting after what they do not and crying about it. These people will develop a love of things that others have discarded and will love to renovate cars and houses. Satisfaction comes later in life after the storms have settled and they can appreciate the good things in life again.
The Fixed Star Betelgeuse
28°45′ tropical Gemini, 4.37 sidereal Gemini, Ardra
Mars/Mercury
· high enterprise, combative, destructive

Fixed star Betelgeuse, Alpha Orionis, is a 0.4 magnitude super-giant red star located in the right shoulder of the Hunter, Orion Constellation. Betelgeuse is labelled alpha Orion even though it is the second brightest star in Orion star behind Rigel. Constellation Orion is drawn as a hunting man, and Betelgeuse sits on his right shoulder. Betelgeuse is one of the largest stars known and is rapidly shrinking in size at an increasing rate. Betelgeuse is 15% smaller than it was fifteen years ago. This has led to predictions that Betelgeuse will explode into a supernova in the next few years. Astronomers say it will turn into a supernova at some stage but cannot say when, but when it does it will be as bright as the full Moon.
Fixed star Betelgeuse is of the nature of Mars and Mercury (high enterprise, combative, destructive). It gives martial honor, preferment, and wealth. War and carnage are presaged by Betelgeuse. The star is indicative of great fortune, martial honors, and other kingly attributes.
Betelgeuse on the Right Shoulder of Orion corresponds to the meaning of Mars with a touch of Mercury. The effects of these properties are more propitious than those of Bellatrix, which is on the left shoulder of Orion (Mrigashira), especially if Jupiter is also connected to it.
Fixed star Betelgeuse rules the navel in the human body.
Constellation Orion
The most important constellation in the heavens outside the zodiac is Orion. In judicial astrology this is the constellation of war. In the Middle Ages this constellation was said to be a direful influence on agriculture, being the “the veri cuttrhrote of cattle” and presaging violent storms and much rain. In birthcharts the indications are for arrogance, rebellion, strength, and courage. Tetrabiblos lists the stars in the shoulder of Orion to have a nature similar to that of Mars and Mercury, and the other bright stars in the constellation to be similar to the natures of Jupiter and Saturn.
According to Ptolemy the bright stars with the exception of Betelgeuse and Bellatrix are like Jupiter and Saturn. It is said to give a strong and dignified nature, self-confidence, inconstancy, arrogance, violence, impiety, prosperity in trade and particularly by voyages or abroad, but danger of treachery and poison. It was thought by the Romans to be very harmful to cattle and productive of storms.
Betelgeuse Star in Mundane Astrology
Because Betelgeuse is a red star it has been associated with war and carnage. Also, as it belongs to Ardra nakshatra, every time that Rahu goes into Ardra conjunct this star we have pandemics and tragedies. Going back 18.5 years every time it is Ardra we can see a pattern of tragedy and disease, as Gemini rules viruses:
2020-Covid-19 Pandemic
2001-911
1983-AIDS
1963/4-JFK Assassination
1945-WWII
1927-The Great Depression

Transit Analysis
On this last Full Moon of 2020, we have the Moon at 14’44” Gemini, Ardra nakshatra, whose symbol is a teardrop, indicating tragedies that make us weep. Mercury is the ruler of Gemini, and Ardra is ruled by Rahu, so that makes the transit positions of these two planets particularly important today. Transit Mercury is opposite the Moon today sitting combust with the Sun in Sagittarius, and Pluto is at the final degrees of Sagittarius and will go into Capricorn tomorrow to conjunct Saturn and Jupiter. In Washington DC this Full Ardra Moon is taking place in the 11th house of communities and great gains, and we know that the stimulus bill has passed, and we are waiting on the Senate to approve it. In the US birth chart this is taking place in the 7th house, and in mundane astrology this is the house of the opponent, indicating problems with the vaccine and those who oppose it, and possibly leading to more people having allergic reactions to it.
Pluto is the planet of death as Hades the god of the Underworld is his ruler; this would be equivalent to Yama, the Vedic god of death. Ardra nakshatra brings destruction and tragedies, and also indicates disease. As we know that when Rahu was in Ardra in March through June we had the beginning of the covid-19 pandemic, so this Full Moon tonight is indicating that there will be a lot of deaths from this disease at this time. We know that there has been a surge in cases of the virus as a result of holiday travel and “quarantine fatigue”, so this will result in more deaths, regrettably. In DC’s chart for the Full Moon this is in the 5th house, which rules children, education, but also speculations such as politics, which is a kind of gamble. There are some deep dark secrets in politics right now, and as Pluto joins Saturn and Jupiter tomorrow you had better bet that they will come to light. Tonight is the darkest hour of the deception, but the dawn comes tomorrow and the light will win.
We are still under the influence of the Saturn Jupiter conjunction that took place exactly on the 21st. As the Sun, Mercury and Pluto are all in Sagittarius today it makes the ruler Jupiter more powerful. Saturn won the planetary war, but Jupiter has something to say today. In today’s chart for DC they are in the 6th house of health and open enemies, so having Jupiter there is excellent to improve health, and to defeat enemies. In the US birth chart they are all in the 1sthouse, and this is extremely powerful, as Pluto is about to conjunct the US Pluto placement. This is called a Pluto Return and only happens every 244 years, so only the birth charts of nations can chart these patterns, as no human lives that long. Pluto will bring about a massive transformation for the United States of America, and in our 2ndhouse this is about money, speech, families, and it is also a maraka house, or a killer house, meaning that malefic planets here can bring destruction, but it will be for a rebirth.
Rahu is in Taurus, and as the ruler of Ardra it makes it significant today; Taurus is ruled by Venus, and transit Venus is in opposition to Rahu right now conjunct Ketu in Taurus. We are also in a kala sarpa yoga right now, meaning all of the planets are between Rahu and Ketu, and events that happen during this time are fated or destined. Whew! It is a very intense feeling, and Ketu and Venus together produces loss of love, and even past life loves that resurface for us to get closure with, or to rekindle. This energy combined with the tears and sadness of the Ardra Moon can produce a broken heart. There is no getting away from it, so if love issues come up just feel it and let it go. In the DC Full Moon chart today Rahu is in the 10th house of government and Ketu/Venus are in the 4th house of the homeland and the emotional heart. Definitely we will be feeling heartbreak today, so try not to bottle it up inside but let it out and let the tears flow. In the US birth chart Rahu is in the 6th house of health and open enemies and Ketu/Venus are in the 12th house of foreign lands and secret enemies, indicating that the US really needs to pay attention to who the real enemies are, as friends are manipulating and not showing their true colors.
Not to be forgotten, Mars and Uranus retrograde are right on the lagna for DC today, and as soon as Mars entered Aries on the 23rd we had one of the worst bombs explode on Christmas Day in Nashville, Tennessee. Certainly the US needs to be careful of more violence and tragedy while these two planets are together, and when Mars enters Taurus it will be conjunct Rahu and then we will really see some fireworks.
