Meet Katya
I am Katharine Faris-Strohm
A certified Neo-Vedic Astrologer trained under Joni Patry at the University of Vedic Astrology, my journey with the stars began at age nine, inspired by my mother’s astrology books. For thirty years, I immersed myself in Western astrology before discovering the depth of Jyotisha (Vedic astrology) in 2010—a shift that transformed my practice.
Beyond astrology, I’ve been a professional Tarot reader since 1989, certified through the Builders of the Adytum (B.O.T.A.) correspondence course. In 2014, I expanded into energy healing as a Master-level Reiki practitioner, blending cosmic insight with holistic wellness.
I received my Master’s
Degree in Ethnomusicology
From Indiana University, Bloomington in 2012. I have found that Jyotisha, the Science of Light, shares many theories and concepts with music, because they are both frequency based systems. In ethnomusicology we use music as a lens to view cultures, and in Jyotisha we use the planets as a lens to view a person’s life. As cosmology is considered the “Queen of the Sciences”, I found that studying Jyotisha was a natural extension of studying music.
